The Help Fashion

Happy Hump Day readers!

If you'll recall I did a book review of The Help (here) in the spring and simply raved about it!  Shortly after I read the book, my mom did too, and also loved it.  We were thrilled the movie was coming out and had been planning to see it just the two of us.

Needless to say, Mother Nature got in the way of our movie plans.  We had hoped to see it last Tuesday night, but after the earthquake, I just needed some time to chill and then we thought we might try to go Sunday, and Irene hit.  We finally made it yesterday afternoon and really enjoyed the movie.

I was quite impressed by the film.  I thought the director did a really good job of not changing too many things or leaving important details out.

What also impressed me in the film was the FASHION!  I have always loved clothes from the 50s and 60s and this movie provided me with some fashion eye candy.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Pink and green...with bows too!  What more could a girl want?

Even though this dress was "homemade" by Elizabeth, I thought the fabric was so beautiful.

This isn't the best photo, but Celia's top in this scene was so cute!  I would totally pair it with jeans and cowboy boots!

Skeeter certainly cleaned up nicely for her first date with Stuart!

Are you a fan of The Help?  Do you have a favorite fashion decade?

Have a great day!

  1. I am completely in love with that fashion, too...between this and the whole Mad Men style revival, I think that I desperately need a great 50's silhouette dress! (c: I also desperately need to read this fabulous book that everyone is raving about!

  2. I loved the movie and the book!!! I thought they did a great job clothing the actresses too! There was recently a clothing line inspired by The Help on HSN. My mom ordered a dress and it was really cute!

  5. I'm still waiting for my mom to finish the book so we can go see the movie together :) I don't really wear 50s-60s clothing super well...I just try to go with a classic look that somehow transcends generations (lbd, white button up-jeans-frye boots, etc)

  6. Ah, I can't wait to see the movie! My favorite fashion eras would have to be the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

  7. I loved the book as well as the movie. I think we may have some Academy Award nominations. Great acting by all. And I loved that Hilly is Ron Howard's daughter in real life!

  9. I'm a huge 50s/60s fashion fan. I especially loved Hilly and Skeeter's fashions. I'd never be able to pull any of it off without feeling totally costume-y but it sure is fun!

  12. I loved the movie so much, I saw it twice...within 3 days of each viewing! I have to agree, I loved the fashion too. Its like the fashion from the 50's/60's is just classier. When I look at old photos of my grandmother, she is always wearing a dress and heels - even when she cleaned!

  21. Miss Celia wore my favorite emsembles in the movie. Back in the 50s they could have been considered taboo, but I could so wear the dress she wore in the Junior League ball scene!
