Essie Wicked Witch of the West

Happy Thursday!!

A few months ago I tried Essie nail polish for the first time.  I bought "Splash of Grenadine" and absolutely loved it.  The nail polish is a great quality--it goes on smooth and lasts for a really long time!

Last week, I was craving a new nail polish so I popped into Ulta to get an Essie.  They were running a Buy 2, Get 1 Free special, so I left with three new polishes:  Ballet SlippersCute As A Button, and Merino Cool.

Merino Cool, Cute As a Button, Ballet Slippers

I tend to only wear nail polishes that are shades of pink or red.  I love it when I see girls wearing darker nail polish or funky colors, but whenever I try them on me I literally cringe.

Last week, however, when I was getting one free, I figured I might as well try a funky color and consider it my free one..thus "Merino Cool."  When I first tried it, I literally put it on my pinky nail--exclaimed "Ewww" and took it off nicknaming it "Wicked Witch of the West" nail polish.

I decided to give it another try, though, thinking that maybe if I wore it for a few days it would grow on me.  This is my second day wearing it and I will say it has grown on me!

My Wicked Witch of the West Nails

What do y'all think?  Do you experiment with edgy nail polish colors or just stick to the classics?

In other news, lunch with Bryce and the Cuties went SO well yesterday!  He brought the Cuties water balloons and after lunch we preceded to have a huge water fight in the back yard.  Additionally, Cutie B is usually very slow to warm up to people and he and Bryce were instant buddies.  Bryce leaves this morning for a business trip until the 23rd.  I keep teasing him that when he comes back I'm going to have 5 new boyfriends, but it's really hitting me how much I'm going to miss him while he's gone!

Have a great day!

  3. I couldn't agree with you more about the nail polish colors. I typically just did a neutral (light ivory or very light pink) on my nails and then a pink or red shade on toenails. After the funky colors got trendy, I first experimented with OPI's You Don't Know Jacques (it's similar to Merino Cool, I think). And since then I've started experimenting a whole lot more! My toenails have been aqua/teal (loved it) and are now a day-glo shade of poppy. Like, seriously they may just glow in the dark.

  8. I love your Wicked Witch nail polish! hehe. I don't like to get too outrageous with my nails.. but I do like dark colors in the fall! In the summer I usually stick to pink or coral, though. And I'm so glad lunch went well!! That makes me wish I was a kid again so I could run around and throw water balloons! Haha :)

  21. I love using fun colors on my nails. In fall/winter, my go-to is OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark.

I recently discovered a brand called Sinful Colors at Target & Walgreens. The colors are very close to Essie/OPI, but a bottle is only $1.99! That makes trying edgy colors easier!

  23. I can't do dark polish with my light complexion, and I just feel like a poser. I am pretty much obsessed with Bryce. Water balloons? Le sigh!

  24. I love all of these colors and actually really like the merino cool! I'm like you... and have a bag FULL of pinks and reds but am really liking some of the new colors lately. You should try the minty color of polish. It's so cute on!

  25. I feel the same way about edgy colors.. love them on everyone else but cringe when I have them on! But why not try something new? Wicked Witch, haha, I don't think it's so bad!!

  26. When it comes to clothes I'm all about the neutral and safe shades, but when it's time to paint away any color will do. Don't be afraid to wear those crazy colors, because when other people look at your nails, they probably think the same thing. If you start with darker versions of old standards like OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark you can slowly transition into crazier colors.

  27. That's a great color!! I might have to go get it! I always think I want to go edgier on colors as well, but usually end up sticking with the same things. My favorite "edgy" color that I wear all the time in winter is some form of dark brown. It looks good with my skin tone so I love it!
