Meeting the Parents

Happy Friday!

As many of y'all know this is a Friday of mixed emotions for me.  Today is my last day with The Cuties for the summer.  Monday I start student teaching and while I'm really looking forward to it, I'm not quite ready for summer to be over.  On the other hand though, I'm very excited that the weekend is here and Bryce will be home from the beach tomorrow.

Additionally, this weekend is a big one...tomorrow night I am meeting Bryce's parents--all FOUR of them!  (His parents are divorced and both remarried, so I will be meeting his mom, dad, step-mom, and step-dad!)  I'm excited to meet them and actually only a little nervous.

In honor of the big meeting I thought it would be fun to share a hilarious clip from one of my favorite movies:  Meet the Parents.  I'm a huge movie fan and this is one of the movies I could watch over and over again!

Hope this puts a smile on your faces!

Do you have any funny stories from a time when you met "the parents?"  What are your plans for the weekend?

Have a good one!

Urban Outfitters Apartment

Happy Thursday!

Thank you for all your sweet comments yesterday and for visiting my guest post over at Flip Flops & Pearls!

Today I wanted to share a recent find with you.  I have always loved Urban Outfitters--they have really cool statement pieces for your wardrobe that are usually pretty affordable.  This summer I've really cut back on my shopping though, so to fulfill my addiction I've taken to what I like to call "Online Window Shopping"--perusing websites and picking out things I'd love to have!

The other night while "window shopping" I decided to check out Urban Outfitters's "Apartment" Section.  Since I'm living from home while I finish up my Master's, I definitely do not have any room for home goods, but a girl can dream, right?

Here are just a few things I would love to put in my someday home...

Isn't this FABULOUS?!?

I think this would be perfect for a screened-in porch!

Wouldn't this rug be cute in a little girl's bathroom?

I love the simplicity and subtle chic-ness of this bedding..

I would totally accessorize this with some pink or turquoise accent pillows.

In case you were confused about this bucket's usage...it's spelled out for you!

I'm obsessed with this...enough said.

I love everything about this rug!

Having grown up in the South, deer heads are a must!

I'm loving the distressed antiquey look of this side table!

Something about this duvet cover just brings a smile to my face!

Are you a fan of Urban Outfitters?  Where are some of your favorite places to buy things for your home?

Have a great day!

{semi} Wordless Wednesday Guest Post

Happy Hump Day readers!

How are your week's going?  Mine is kind of a strange one--in some ways I want the week to fly by so Bryce will be home from the beach.  In other ways, however, I want it to go by  s l o w l y  because this is my last week with the Cuties and I am not quite ready to say goodbye to all of our summer fun.

Last night I had a girls' night with two of my girlfriends.  We went to Beauregard's Thai Room and enjoyed wine and dessert on the patio.  Of course, lots of girl talk and gossip was added into the mix which made the night fabulous!

Wine and Chocolate Ice Cream...what more could a girl want?

The Girls!

In other news, today I am guest posting for {semi} Wordless Wednesday over at Flip Flops & Pearls.  My post is all about my two favorite kids in the world--The Cuties.  Be sure to stop by and check it out as well as Daphne's fabulous blog--click here!

A Long Way Gone

A Happy Tuesday to you all!

Today's African Aspirations post is going to be a little different.

Rather that sharing something with you that I've done research on, I thought we could learn about something together.  Please skim through this and read important instructions at the bottom!

A while back one of my best friend's AMF gave me the book A Long Way Gone  by Ishmael Beah.

AMF read it for a human rights class we both took and highly recommended it.

According to the website:

"In A LONG WAY GONE, Beah, now twenty-six years old, tells a riveting story.  At the age of twelve he fled attacking rebels and wandered a land rendered unrecognizable by violence.  By thirteen, he'd been picked up by the government army, and Beah, at heart  a gentle boy, found that he was capable of truly terrible acts.  Eventually released by the army and sent to a UNICEF rehabilitation center, he struggled to regain his humanity and to reenter the world of civilians, who viewed him with fear and suspicion.  This is, at last, a story of redemption and hope."

Beah

So now for my grand idea!  I thought a fun way to broaden all our horizons and learn from each other would be to do a blog book discussion.  October's installment of African Aspirations will be my review of this book and some questions for discussion.  I'd love for YOU my readers to read this book with me and link up with your own reviews and responses to my questions.  I know we all love our light, girly books--but why not read something a little heavier once in a while?

To buy this book, check out Amazon here.

You've got two months to find time to read this book--WHO'S IN!?

Have a great day!

Here Fishy, Fishy...

Happy Monday and Happy August to all of you!

Because today is the first day of August that means it's time for African Aspirations, however, I decided to push that back a day so I could tell all of you about my fishing trip on the Rappahanock River this weekend!

Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and left the house by 5:45 am! We were on the water by 7:00 and though I would have loved to sleep in that morning, it was gorgeous being out so early.

My idea of "fishing" usually consists of fishing a little bit, and then heading up to the bow to lay out and read for a while.  Saturday was no different, however, I stopped fishing altogether after about ten minutes.  My favorite thing to do in the world is be on the boat, so I spent my day lounging up on the bow (which has always been my spot), chit-chatting with the guys, and just basking in the sun!

The fish weren't biting at our first spot, so we decided to try somewhere else.  I headed up to the bow and enjoyed the cruise!

The weather was gorgeous: blue skies and a nice breeze

My favorite spot on the boat!

getting the lines ready at our next spot!

Turns out we didn't have much luck there either, so we headed somewhere else...

An important part of fishing is patience and we certainly had that...

After awhile, I was beginning to think we were going to go home empty handed.  My dad finally caught something, though...a CRAB, only he was missing two legs!  We teased him that the only thing he could catch was a handicapped crab.

Our luck, eventually changed, though..

the guys caught 5 or 6 perch in a row!

However, our good luck sadly did not last long.  At about 1 pm, when the breeze vanished, we decided to call it a day.

As we were leaving, we called my mom to let her know we were on the way home.  She excitedly asked "Are y'all bringing a cooler full of fish home?"  We had to tell her that it was in fact, a bad day of fishing.  I think this Billy Currington song, "A Bad Day of Fishing Beats a Good Day of Anything Else" should be our theme song for the day:

Have you ever had a bad day of fishin'?  How was your weekend?
