Shine On

Happy Thursday readers!

What a long, rainy week it's been here!  It started raining Monday afternoon and hasn't stopped. Tomorrow the sun is finally supposed to come out and I am ready for it!

Today's post has been on my "list" for quite some time.  I haven't sat down to write it, however, because it's a post I really want to get right.

Let me explain...I am writing today in memory, in honor, and in celebration of the life of Casey Schulman.

Casey was in my sorority and was two years younger than me.  My first memory of her is of boys' bid night her first year.  Somehow we ended up together that night and were inseparable.  I lived in the sorority house that year and she spent the night, "swiping me in" to brunch at O'Hill, a first year dining hall, the next morning.  We laughed over the night before and a special friendship began.

Casey died tragically in a boating accident during Semester at Sea in December of 2012. The news hit hard; I hadn't stayed in the best touch with her since graduating and regret that.  What is saddest for me, however, when thinking of her death, is that the world lost someone so bright.  Casey had the kindest heart and it showed through her big, beautiful smile and bright eyes.  She was caring, and down to earth.  The world needs more people like her and it seems unjust that she was taken so young.

I am sharing all of this with you, because, together with me, you can honor her memory.  Casey's family has set up the Casey Schulman Foundation, which provides scholarships to students who embody the traits that made Casey so special.  You can read more about it here.  Having a blog is important to me for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that it provides a vehicle to share my thoughts and ideas with lots of people, in lots of different places.  Usually, that isn't a big deal...let's be real, posting about Tory Burch's sale, isn't changing the world.  But today, I do have an opportunity to make a difference.

One of the slogans that has emerged since Casey's death has been "Shine On."

Given that background, I wanted to share an opportunity with you to benefit the Casey Schulman Foundation.  The company Serengetee has teamed up with Casey's foundation and offers tees with a special "Shine On" pocket that benefits the scholarship fund.  You can buy them by clicking here.  The shirts come in a variety of styles and the long sleeve shown below is my favorite.

How comfy cozy, do they look?

I am going to order one and hope if you feel so inclined, you might too.  Regardless, however, I hope that this post will make you take a minute and think of those you love; reflect on your life and how you can "shine" as Casey did.

Shine on.
